"7 U.S. States That Might Have Been"

Here's a fun item...
Ever hear of "Absaroka" or "Acadia" or "Texlahoma"?
According to ZenCollegeLife, several U.S. states almost seceded from each other or were partitioned over the course of U.S. history due to political differences.
For example, in the early 1900's, northern rural Texas and western Oklahoma almost seceded from their respective states in order to form a new state that could gain funding for roads.
Likewise, South Dakota ranchers and northern Wyoming residents reacted to a lack of federal aid from the New Deal by threatening to form "Absaroka." By 1939, residents were using Absaroka license plates. The movement lost momentum during World War II.
