Celebrate America’s Irish roots while supporting union jobs.

It’s mid-March, and you know what that means? St. Patrick’s Day is right around the corner! It’s the day to celebrate all things Irish with family and friends.

But with seven times more people of Irish descent than Ireland, America has made St. Patrick’s Day as American as apple pie. So, why not support American workers on the most Irish day of the year?

Every St. Patrick’s Day, the AFL-CIO reminds Americans what holiday foods, drinks and services they can buy to support good-paying, union jobs. From Saag’s corned beef and Dole cabbage to Jim Beam and Budweiser, they’ve got you covered. And don’t forget! Make sure to buy at unionized grocery stores like Safeway, Albertsons and Haggen.

Note to self: Keep the cabbage far from the pupper's reach. via GIPHY

Supporting union jobs means supporting fair pay, adequate benefits and the dignity of work. It’s important to buy union goods and services whenever we can, but that impact is even larger on big holidays like St. Patrick’s Day. It’s a way to make it clear to companies that consumers prefer spending money ethically. With this pressure, union jobs stay strong.

If you live in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Washington DC, Philadelphia or New York City, check out Labor 411’s website, which AAM highlighted in January, for region-specific lists of union goods and services.

Happy St. Patrick's Day and don't forget to wear something green!
