The eight-piece collection is designed with comfort in mind.
Looks like the NFL’s best defensive player has kept busy this offseason.
Houston Texans star J.J. Watt debuted his new Made in America menswear collection with Mizzen+Main this week. The limited-edition line features six dress shirts and two polos, all made with Mizzen+Main’s trademark stretchy, breathable fabric that’s designed to be machine-washable and wrinkle resistant.
Watt, who has been a spokesman for the brand for a few years now, says that the shirts follow a red, white and blue color scheme that reflect “what our company’s about — it’s American-made.”
“Everybody looks for a little bit of uniqueness in their look, I think,” he says in a video promoting the line. “We have to wear a suit every game day, so it gives me an opportunity to help customize my own look, and then also give some things to other guys around the league to wear, and for the everyday guy going to work, try to make them a little more stylish. Bold, but classy, something that says, ‘I have a little style, too.’”
The polos cost $80, while the dress shirts come in at $145, priced similarly to other prominent menswear brands. Each piece is named after a street that is important in Watt’s life, including the black and blue large checkered shirt called Park Hill.
“This one’s very close to my heart, and I think this is a very cool shirt,” Watt says. “I like this one, because you can really dress it up if you want to, and make it something special for a night out, or you can wear it with jeans.”
Along with Watt’s new collection, Texas-based Mizzen+Main sells a range of menswear like chinos, shorts, pullovers, sweaters and accessories.
But the company, which was also featured in our 2016 Made in America Holiday Gift Guide, is most famous for its dress shirts, which are made of “performance fabric” that the company says “breathe, stretch, and wick away moisture.”
