Good News for New York: manufacturing growth accelerated in January
Posted by aburke on 01/18/2012
The New York Fed's "Empire State" general business conditions index, which measures the health of the New York State industrial base showed a pickup in growth in January. The general business conditions index rose to 13.48 from a revised 8.19 in December, topping economists' expectations of 11.0. It was the highest level since April 2011, reports Reuters.
The New York Federal Reserve attributes this rise in business to an increase in new orders and employment.
