Growing jobs in America, whether through reshoring or by creating new ones, is a process.  At times it happens slowly.

Perfect example: In East Liverpool, Ohio, a phone call from a businessman in California spared the American Mug and Stein Company from closing and in fact created eight new jobs (in addition to the four people already employed).

The New York Times’ Stephanie Strom reports that Ulrich Honighausen, owner of Hausenware, a tableware company, felt compelled to try to create some new American jobs after hearing a radio interview with Howard D. Schultz, chief executive of Starbucks.

Honighausen called Clyde McClellan, owner of American Mug and Stein, with a plan to reinvigorate his company and put his employees to work making mugs for Starbucks.

According to Strom, the mugs go on sale in Starbucks across the country today. Starbucks also released a new “Indivisible” coffee blend today and a travel coffee tumbler. All three items are part of the “Create Jobs for USA” initiative.

Starbucks defines the initiative as “An innovative program enabling Americans to unite in helping Americans get back to work.” The company also says that “With each purchase from the Indivisible collection, Starbucks will make a donation to Opportunity Finance Network (OFN) for the Create Jobs for USA Fund to help create and retain jobs across the country.”

As we’ve mentioned on this blog before, growing manufacturing jobs in America is common sense.

While it’s great that individuals like Honighausen and Schultz are doing their part, by making conscientious choices to create jobs in America, they cannot do it alone.  America's manufacturers want to see Washington takes steps to implement a national manufacturing strategy.
