U.S. wins WTO trade case against China regarding electrical steel
The World Trade Organization (WTO) today has sided with the U.S. on a complaint about the imposition of China’s antidumping and countervailing duties on U.S. exports of "grain-oriented flat-rolled electrical steel."
A WTO panel found that China conducted an investigation and applied duties in a manner inconsistent with numerous obligations under the Subsidies and Countervailing Measures Agreement and the Antidumping Agreement.
USTR Ron Kirk said the latest decision sends "another clear signal to China that it must do more to fulfill its WTO commitments, and that it will be held accountable to play by WTO rules."
Commented Scott Paul, Executive Director of the Alliance for American Manufacturing (AAM): “This ruling shows that getting tough on trade cheating pays dividends--it will save jobs in America.
"Kudos to the Obama administration for enforcing the law and successfully defending the decision at the WTO.”
