Issues
America is home to some of the greatest doctors, nurses, hospitals, and clinics in the world. Our medical schools are top-notch, and people come from all over the world for appointments with our health care professionals, for good reason. However, despite these realities, we also need to acknowledge that our healthcare system, as a whole, is in need of significant reform
Our healthcare system is complicated, confusing, and causes problems for all of us. Costs for employers, employees, taxpayers and the government are spiraling out of control. In addition, more than 45 million Americans lack health insurance while premiums for families have risen more than 65 percent since 2000. Healthcare costs now account for 40 percent of personal bankruptcies.
While Americans are divided on how best to enact reform, there is a common belief that the system must change for the better, and that change should ensure that:
- All Americans have access to quality healthcare.
- Costs must be brought under control, while ensuring unsurpassed quality of care.
- A greater emphasis is placed on prevention and technology.
- The system is increasingly easier to use, not more difficult.
AAM is dedicated to providing policy makers with the information they need to make the right choices about the healthcare challenges facing America. By bringing together labor, management, and elected officials at the state and federal level, we can find a solution.
