Manufacturing and National Security

Whether its nanotechnology or robotics, the incredible advances in American manufacturing that consumers take for granted often serve an additional purpose. These technologies support our military, particularly our soldiers fighting overseas.

American manufacturers supply our military with the essentials needed to defend this country, including, tanks, fighter jets, submarines, and other high tech equipment. Maintaining this capability through a vibrant and dynamic industrial base is critical for our national security. The alternative is to rely on other countries to supply our military. The fact is we simply cannot risk being held hostage to the interests of other countries, especially when they may run counter to our own.

In particular, it is crucial that key components and technologies critical to the production of U.S. weapons, and related industrial capacity, be located within the United States.

It’s vital that we maintain our capabilities to defend this country and protect ourselves at home and abroad. A strong defense industrial manufacturing base is critical to that end. When our national security is at stake, we should not depend solely on other countries, friend or foe, to supply our defense needs. As a matter of policy, we should never be held hostage to foreign manufacturers when it comes to products essential for our national security and the U.S. military.
