The Early Shift

The network of dealers that GM built for Saturn, ironically, may greatly benefit foreign carmakers. The Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation (PBGC), the federal agency that guarantees pensions for 44 million Americans, is running a record deficit.  China—the world’s largest carbon dioxide polluter—is brazenly proposing that by 2020, developed nations must cut their greenhouse gas emissions by at least 40% from 1990 levels.  Moreover, China is suggesting that "rich countries" donate at least 0.5% to 1% of their annual GDP to help poorer countries cope with climate change and greenhouse gas emissions. Really, China?  Really?! Wouldn't China itself be considered a "rich country" since it now is the world's third largest economy after the  U.S. and Japan?  Will China now have to set 1% of its GDP aside to help Germany to clean up its emissions, since German economy is now smaller than that of China's?  How about helping out France, and U.K. and Italy while you are at it, too?!  Really. This attitude about the greenhouse emissions problem is not the only toxic thing to come out of China lately.  How about that Chinese drywall that has made U.S. homeowners physically sick and emotionally devasted about the inability to live comfortably in their own homes?
