Statement on latest monthly jobs report: Alliance for American Manufacturing (AAM)

Fri, 10/07/2011

The latest monthly U.S. jobs report was issued this morning.  Said Scott Paul, Executive Director, Alliance for American Manufacturing:

"There is no reason to celebrate this jobs report. Manufacturing, which lost 13,000 jobs in September, shows continued weakness. That's important to the overall economy because manufacturing has played an outsized role in contributing to our economy since the recession ended.

"The question is this: What will Washington do to respond? We need a jobs bill, and we need to hold China accountable for its role in reducing employment and export opportunities for American workers and businesses.

"We have offered a plan to grow jobs and the economy. It's bipartisan, affordable, and comprehensive. We hope the White House and Congress will incorporate elements of it into a package to grow the productive sector of our economy."

The Alliance for American Manufacturing (AAM) is a unique non-partisan, non-profit partnership forged to strengthen manufacturing in the U.S. AAM brings together a select group of America’s leading manufacturers and the United Steelworkers to promote creative policy solutions on priorities such as international trade, energy security, health care, retirement security, currency manipulation, and other issues of mutual concern.  For more information, please visit www.americanmanufacturing.org.
