Who We Are

The Alliance for American Manufacturing (AAM) is a unique non-partisan, non-profit partnership forged to strengthen manufacturing in the U.S. AAM brings together a select group of America’s leading manufacturers and the United Steelworkers. Our mission is to promote creative policy solutions on priorities such as international trade, energy security, health care, retirement security, currency manipulation, and other issues of mutual concern.

We believe that an innovative and growing manufacturing base is vital to America’s economic and national security, as well as to providing good jobs for future generations.

AAM achieves its mission through research, public education, advocacy, strategic communications, and coalition building around the issues that matter most to America’s manufacturing sector.

Here’s what a few of our partners have to say about AAM.

Innovative Research…Real Solutions

AAM partners with leading public policy institutions and respected academics to conduct innovative, cutting-edge research on the some of the most pressing concerns facing American manufacturers. This collaboration aims to offer meaningful ways to move forward on many of the issues facing American manufacturing such as:

  • Enforcing the rules to hold our trading partners accountable for unfair trade practices that distort the marketplace and harm American workers and taxpayers;
  • Managing health care and retirement costs for manufacturers who honor the commitment they made to their employees and retirees;
  • Preserving national and homeland security by ensuring that we are independently able to produce the goods that allow us to defend America; and,
  • Promoting policies that will allow our manufacturers to grow by making certain that America has sustainable, affordable, and domestic sources of renewable and traditional energy.

Promoting America’s Great Manufacturers and Employees

AAM works to strengthen the connection that Americans have with manufacturing.  Whether we know it or not, all of us depend on the dedicated men and women who make, with pride and precision, the products that make this nation great, from our skyscrapers, fighter jets, and interstate bridges, to our washing machines, aluminum foil, and outdoor grills.

For too long, inattention to the deterioration of American manufacturing has led to severe consequences. In just six short years, the U.S. has lost more than 3 million manufacturing jobs – almost 17 percent of all manufacturing in this country.  Forty years ago, manufacturing accounted for roughly 53 percent of the U.S. Gross Domestic Product. Today, manufacturing accounts for less than 12 percent.

The decline of manufacturing jobs not only has devastating effects on the families of laid-off workers and the communities in which plants close, but also for our ability to secure America’s economic future.  Today manufacturing employs nearly 14 million Americans directly and creates an additional 8 million jobs in other sectors; manufacturing contributes $1.2 trillion to America’s economy.

AAM is dedicated to making America the world leader in manufacturing. We invite you to join with us.
