Team AAM’s native Minnesotan shares American-made coats that are built for Arctic expeditions, the chicest of outdoor occasions, or anywhere in between.
For many of us, the weather is starting to get chilly. That means it’s time to start breaking out those coats! If your coat has seen better days and you’re looking to upgrade as winter approaches, look no further. We’ve compiled a list of Made in USA coat options for all kinds of styles, weather and needs!
Dehen 1920
It’s hard to get more Pacific Northwest chic than the clothes from Dehen 1920. All of the garments sold by Dehen 1920 are made from high-quality wool in Portland, Ore. While these jackets aren’t heavy duty by any means, they’re perfect for fall (or winter if you live somewhere that doesn’t get as cold). There’s a variety of styles, but Dehen 1920 is most famous for their iconic varsity jackets, of which there are plenty of options to choose from. Don’t just shop here for cold-weather wear, though: Dehen 1920 also sells t-shirts and dress shirts, so you can rock U.S.-made clothes year-round!
Wintergreen Northwear
What if you live somewhere where it is freezing in the winter? If so, you should check out the winter coats from Wintergreen Northwear. They’re based out of the far-north town of Ely, Minn., where winters are extremely harsh (as a native Minnesotan, I can attest to this)! But it’s not just Minnesota winters that have influenced the design of these heavy-duty jackets. Founder Susan Schurke began the business by making coats for Arctic expeditions! Her passion for the great outdoors is evident in Wintergreen’s clothes, which are all designed to allow you to enjoy nature all year round. Just keep in mind that Wintergreen’s clothes are made from both domestic and imported fabrics; check labels!
The Checkroom
Liz Williams had a problem. She was frustrated with the lack of quality in women’s coats and the lack of transparency about designers’ ethics and supply chains. So, she decided to put her skills as a seamstress to use and founded The Checkroom. All of these dress coats are sewn in Chicago. They aren’t exactly cheap, but they are high-quality and will last you far longer than less expensive options. Plus, The Checkroom has made an effort to source 100% of their wool from the U.S. for ethical and environmental reasons. When you wear one of these stylish coats, you’ll be sure to receive loads of compliments!
Devium
Hoping to sport a rustic look this winter? The jackets from Devium are the perfect choice. They’re made by artisan sewers from across the country with 100% U.S. sourced components. It’s no wonder, then, that this Truckee, Calif. company has a lifelong guarantee for all of their garments. That’s how you know these are jackets you can rely on. Check out Devium’s other clothing options as well!
Ginew

The jackets that Portland, Ore.-based Ginew sells are the very definition of American-made. Ginew is a Native-owned business that collaborates with Native artists to incorporate traditional Ojibwe, Oneida, and Stockbridge-Munsee and contemporary design elements in their garments. Each step of the garment making process is based in the USA as well. These jackets (and other clothing items) are made in small batches, so if you see something you like, be sure to grab it before it’s gone! Learn more about the company on our blog.
American Trench
American Trench is for anyone who wants to look a bit dressier as the weather gets colder. Headquartered just outside of Philadelphia, American Trench is named after, you guessed it, trench coats! They’ve expanded to make more jackets now, though, primarily focusing on more formal blazers. You’ll also find shirts and even socks up for sale. Some of American Trench’s clothes are 100% Made in the US, while others are Made in the US with imported fabrics. American Trench is very transparent about sourcing so be sure to check labels!
Overland
Overland is well-known for their sheepskin and leather coats and other clothes. But did you know that some of their coats are Made in the USA? You’ll have to be sure to stick to the right section on their website and check labels just in case, but Overland has a large selection of domestically made western-style coats to choose from. This Fairfield, Iowa, company sells more than just jackets, though. If you’re shopping for Made in USA hats, belts or bags, you’ll find some options from Overland!
