Check Your Pet’s Treat Label: Chinese Chicken May Be Making Your Dog Sick

According to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), jerky dog treats made with chicken products imported from China may be causing some alarming canine illnesses. The FDA reports that over the past year there has been an increase in the number of complaints from dog owners and veterinarians about illnesses associated with the consumption of chicken jerky products.

After warning consumers in 2007 that chicken jerky products may be associated with illness in dogs, the FDA saw a drop in complaints, but notes that they are “once again seeing the number of complaints rise to the levels of concern that prompted release of our earlier warnings.”

So next time you’re looking for treats to reward your four-legged friend, steer clear of MADE IN CHINA chicken jerky products and choose treats that are made domestically. Your dog will likely reward you with a tail wag and a sloppy kiss, which we’re pretty sure is K9 for “thanks for keeping it made in America!”
