Why is the Oregon Department of Transportation Working to Undermine a New Buy America Law?

It’s time to take action, Beaver State residents!

Earlier this year, Oregon Gov. Tina Kotek signed into law House Bill 3332, a bipartisan measure that requires the state to Buy American when purchasing iron, steel, and manufactured products for Oregon’s public works.

But now the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) is trying to water down the implementation of this new law by claiming it is in the public’s interest due to “administrative burden.”

That’s absolute nonsense – and we only have until 5 p.m. Pacific time on Wednesday to do something about it.

Please join me in telling ODOT that is in the public’s interest to Buy American.

Strong Buy America preferences help create good paying American jobs and keep our tax dollars here at home, including in Oregon.

It makes sense to support companies that invest in U.S. operations and boost our local economy. It makes NO sense to send our hard-earned tax money overseas to places like China when folks here at home are ready to do the work at a competitive price!

We only have until close of business on Dec. 20 to tell ODOT to properly implement Buy American — and let’s make sure that ODOT gets the message.

Please act ASAP and tell ODOT to fully implement HB 3332, because it is in the public’s interest to Buy American!
