Mark Andol didn’t intend to get into the retail business. He began his career running General Welding & Fabricating, which grew to be so successful that it eventually opened four locations. But Andol took a tough hit because of unfair competition from China, and eventually had to close two of those shops. Inspired — and perhaps a little angry — in 2010 Andol opened the first Made in America Store in the vacant showroom of an Elma, N.Y. car dealership, stocking only 100 percent American-made products. Andol quickly discovered there was a high demand for American-made goods, and today the retail outlet has multiple locations and an robust e-commerce website.
