It’s Time to Fully Implement Build America, Buy America: AAM Statement

Washington, D.C. — The House Transportation & Infrastructure’s Subcommittee on Highways and Transit will hear testimony from stakeholders on the implementation of Build America, Buy America today at 10 a.m. Eastern. Watch the hearing online here.

Alliance for American Manufacturing President Scott Paul said:

“From rail cars in New York to fiber optic cable in North Carolina and Arizona and even fire hydrants in Illinois and Alabama, Buy America is encouraging more domestic manufacturing of the things we need to rebuild our infrastructure.

“But the job remains unfinished. Delayed implementation of these popular, bipartisan preferences means we are sending taxpayer dollars overseas instead of reinvesting that money right back into American workers. And too many general waivers have been issued over multiple presidential administrations, even when there are American manufacturers ready and willing to take on many of these critical infrastructure projects.

“It’s time to fully implement the Build America, Buy America Act and end the overly broad waivers that have limited the policy’s effectiveness. Let’s give American factory workers the first shot at taxpayer-funded contracts, direct taxpayer money to encourage further investment in U.S. manufacturing and put policy in place that ensures the United States can make the things it needs to build all of its infrastructure.”

The Build America, Buy America Act (BABA) provisions within the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law direct federal agencies in applying domestic content preferences in federally assisted infrastructure projects for iron and steel, construction materials, and manufactured products.
