Manufacturing Gains 15,000 Jobs in July: AAM Statement

The Department of Labor reported this morning that America's manufacturing sector added 15,000 jobs in July.

The #AAMeter, which tracks President Obama's promise to create 1 million new manufacturing jobs in his second term, increased to +403,000 jobs, after revisions to previous months' data.

Said Alliance for American Manufacturing President Scott Paul:

“Today’s jobs report was finally a step in the right direction for manufacturing. The sector gained 15,000 jobs, in spite of tough import competition and an overly strong dollar.

“The administration should build on this success by getting the specifics on trade enforcement and currency manipulation right as it wraps up the Trans-Pacific Partnership deal. And Congress can help, too, by actually passing a long-term highway bill when it returns after Labor Day."

The #AAMeter: During his re-election campaign, President Obama set a goal of creating 1 million new manufacturing jobs in his second term. The Alliance for American Manufacturing continues to track the president's progress via our monthly manufacturing jobs tracker, the #AAMeter, based on monthly jobs data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
