Obama Heads to Idaho: AAM Statement

President Obama heads to Idaho for the first stop on his post-State of the Union tour. The Obama administration’s 'middle-class economics' will aim to train and educate Americans — adding trade policy would ensure there are jobs to fill.

Commented Alliance for American Manufacturing President Scott Paul:

“I’m excited that President Obama is visiting Idaho to draw attention to Boise State’s engineering lab and the state’s high-tech economy. The president has a formula for rebuilding the manufacturing sector that includes free community college, training, and manufacturing hubs. All good things.

“Idaho has all the ingredients to support and grow a strong, high-tech manufacturing sector. But it has been plagued by outsourcing to China. In fact, the Gem State alone lost nearly 17,000 jobs to China from 2001-2013.

“If there’s one ingredient missing from the president’s plan, it’s cracking down on China’s currency manipulation. That would go a long way to creating jobs in Idaho and across the nation.”
