Washington, D.C. — U.S. factories gained 16,000 jobs in August, according to data released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics on Friday.

Alliance for American Manufacturing President Scott Paul said:

“Factory hiring is steadily rounding into form, which is good news for workers. Manufacturing added 16,000 jobs last month and is up 58,000 since the December jobs report. That’s some nice momentum after significant drops over the past few years. I’m on the lookout for potential roadblocks to continued growth: jacking up interest rates, letting China off the hook, and energy price shocks all come to mind.”

U.S. manufacturing has gained 58,000 jobs since December 2025, when factory employment dropped to its most recent nadir.
