Washington, D.C. — U.S. factories lost 11,000 jobs in July, according to data released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics on Friday.

Alliance for American Manufacturing President Scott Paul said:

“The slight downturn in manufacturing jobs in July is hardly surprising. It’s another ‘treading water’ number, which has been the case more often than not for the past few years. But it is concerning that we’re now 173,000 jobs below the most recent peak in February 2023.

“My hope is that now that tax and trade policy are largely settled, we’ll begin to see an uptick, but there is still much work to do. A bad deal with China could have dire consequences, and getting a new and improved USMCA into place is essential. Those reciprocal trade agreements and Section 232 actions will need strong implementation and enforcement.”

Paul is available for interview.
