Washington, D.C. – Manufacturing lost 1.3 million jobs in April, according to data released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics on Friday. The entire economy lost 20.5 million jobs.
Given that manufacturing never fully recovered from the economic damage of the Great Recession, reversing this unprecedented job loss will be a significant challenge. Moving forward, it is imperative for policymakers to find innovative ways to get America back to work, when it is safe to so, in order to rectify the damage of these record numbers.
Alliance for American Manufacturing President Scott Paul said:

That means unprecedented investments in rebuilding America, measures to spur auto sales, and incentives to bring back jobs from overseas."
The Alliance for American Manufacturing is launching a new campaign today to urge Congress to finally put in place a robust infrastructure investment package that will create millions of new jobs and provide a desperately needed boost to local economies.
