AAM Welcomes Bipartisan Trade Discussion During U.S. Elections

There’s no doubt that trade has been a major point in the national political discussion this election cycle. While the Alliance for American Manufacturing (AAM) does not endorse political candidates, we do encourage helpful conversation surrounding trade and manufacturing.

Said AAM President Scott Paul:

“The Alliance for American Manufacturing knows that smart policies create good jobs, and our mission is to promote American manufacturing from both sides of the aisle.

“Trade is not a Democratic or a Republican issue, but an American issue. That’s why you will see us at both political conventions this year. We don’t endorse candidates at any level, but we do welcome this election’s change of direction and the competition of ideas when it comes to trade and manufacturing policy.

“When candidates talk about America’s future during the conventions the coming weeks, I hope they’ll consider the steel mills just down the road, which have struggled amid China’s massive industrial overcapacity and currency manipulation. I hope they’ll listen to America’s workers who have faced years of job loss as they wait for trade laws to be enforced.

“It seems like candidates and voters are finally on the same page, and the reason is simple: trade matters. Manufacturing matters – and it is up to our lawmakers to implement fair policies, no matter which political party they belong to.”
