President Trump expected to sign orders to investigate the trade deficit, strengthen trade enforcement

President Donald Trump is expected to sign two trade-related Executive Orders Friday.

In an announcement to press Thursday night, the administration outlined orders that call for a Commerce Department investigation into the U.S. trade deficit and an interagency push to collect anti-dumping and countervailing duties. As of 2016, over $2.8 billion in duties went unpaid.

Said Alliance for American Manufacturing (AAM) President Scott Paul:

"We welcome President Trump’s actions on trade today.

"Reducing the trade deficit, particularly in manufactured goods, is essential to economic growth and creating good, middle-class jobs in America. Ensuring that customs duties are collected, and not evaded, helps to create a level playing field for American workers and businesses. These executive orders start us on the path to do both.

"We look forward to working closely with the administration as these efforts move forward."
