Trump’s Move to Rescue ZTE is a Mistake

The Commerce Department on Thursday announced a $1.4 billion settlement with Chinese telecommunications firm ZTE that will allow the company to continue to operate in the United States.

Alliance for American Manufacturing (AAM) President Scott Paul said:

"While we recognize the efforts the Commerce Department made to financially punish and restructure ZTE, they still inadequately safeguard American security. A Chinese state-owned firm that has repeatedly violated sanctions protocols shouldn't be part of the telecommunications architecture of the United States, period.

"The concession to China here is also striking because the administration has made no progress on lowering the bilateral trade deficit or achieving structural reforms that will support American factory workers. President Trump and his team must do better than this. American jobs and security depend on it."
